The Tet-a-Tet album by Henri Cartier-Bresson includes portraits of the most prominent personalities of the second half of the 20th century. Photos are presented in a non-chronological order, but organized in such a way as to show the connections and parallels of poses and similarities of faces, familiar images in an unusual environment: a very young Truman Capote in a crumpled T-shirt, at the dawn of literary fame; very old Colette, who retains her penetrating gaze; Matisse with his birds; Sartre with his pipe ... There is also a group of portraits of unknown people: tribes from Kashmir, prostitutes in Mexico City, women in southern Spain, always dressed in black. And, as noted in the preface to Tet-a-Tet, art critic E.Kh. When creating these portraits, Gombrich, Carte-Bresson significantly departed from the techniques of the "secular" photographer, on the contrary - "he always preferred to lie in wait for an expressive moment."

I did not think that Henri Cartier-Bresson photographed celebrities. The study album convincingly showed me that this is not so, and that in shooting portraits of celebrities and portraits in general, he succeeded no less than in reporting.
